Biografie

Na Omi Shintani is a sansei (third generation) Japanese American artist, born in Ames, Iowa, and grew up in Lodi, a small Central California farming area, before moving the San Francisco Bay Area. She has an art studio in an old dairy barn in Half Moon Bay, a coastside town.

Shintani is an accomplished community artist who creates a safe environment for inquiry and connection. Her work powerfully explores hidden stories and exposes social injustice. Shintani’s unique assemblages and installations often incorporate traditional Japanese arts and crafts.

Shintani was awarded the prestigious California Arts Council Established Artist Fellowship award in 2023, recognizing her outstanding artistic achievements. She holds an MA in Arts and Consciousness from JFKU, and a BS in Graphic Design from San Jose State University. Shintani resides in Half Moon Bay, where she continues to inspire and teach as a faculty member at Foothill College.
